Your patience is rooted in gratitude. The more refined your gratitude is, that is; how aware you are of the presence of divine love in the cosmos including yourself, the more inconsequential negative and unpleasant things become. You see the wisdom and love shrouded in the hardships and you’re patient because you’re hopeful. You’re patient because you’re connected to the meaning within and without yourself.

And he turned away from them and said: “Alas, my grief for Yusuf!” And he lost his sight because of the sorrow that he was suppressing.
They said: “By Allaah! You will never cease remembering Yusuf until you become weak with old age, or until you be of the dead.
He said: “I only complain of my grief and sorrow to Allaah, and I know from Allaah that which you know not.
