If all these men who go to study in the Islamic university of Madinah, and UmmalQura in Makkah and the various halaqaat (study circles) around the Muslim world, and even in the West, were to develop true understanding of what they are learning, it would translate in mass change and transformation of society for the better. I’m not talking about “islamically”, I’m talking about mass scale, systematic change that affects all levels and layers of society, both Muslim and non-Muslim. Because this knowledge wasn’t meant to be compartmentalized and delineated to certain aspects. It’s the truth in raw form and is only actualized when it changes the heart and isn’t just contained in the dogmatic mind. People treat the deen like a fragile egg that needs to be protected from corruption. That’s an insult to Allaah, that you think you’re safeguarding it.
If any of it was practiced correctly, the Muslim world and by extension the world, wouldn’t be in shambles. It wouldn’t be utopian to say that wars would be stopped, poverty alleviated, wildlife and nature restored, inequalities banished, quantum leaps in technological advances for the betterment of humanity wouldn’t be far-fetched.
We think doing what we think is right is enough, and when the outcome doesn’t align with our expectations we’d rather blame the outside than revisit our methodology. Everything I said above is nothing Allaah hasn’t said. Don’t believe me?
Allaah has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practise their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islaam). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the degenerate.
Meaning, when we rectify our morals and spiritual fabric, that inevitably and immediately translates as harmony, cohesion, and authority on the external or the macrocosmic. But as long as we are morally corrupt, the external can’t reflect anything but that back to us. So the focal point shouldn’t be on the corruption in the world, but it should give us pause and make us reflect on the greater divine design. Because surely, if Allaah didn’t want this to happen He wouldn’t let it. But that He removed His harmony and light and love to the degrees that we see reflected in the world is for no other reason but that our hearts and minds have become too cluttered and crowded to receive divine order. And until we gain that self-awareness and moral courage to rectify what’s wrong and do what’s right even if you’re the only person on the face of the planet doing it, we’re headed for derailment.
