One thing that makes me hopeful about the fairness of life is that the pursuit of happiness isn’t made more accessible by power or wealth or following. You can’t strong-arm it through an iron will or inflammatory rhetoric or hype. You can’t beg it, bargain with it, manipulate your way to it, fake it till you make it. You deal with it through your naked soul, stripped bare down to what your heart holds dear. Regardless of your socioeconomic standing, fear appears equally as menacing and debilitating to us all and hope is what we all seek. If anything, what we use to flex and perform with for others become liabilities and hinders in the things that really matter in life. No matter how you try, you can’t make yourself feel as good as you make your life look. Your soul can’t be bribed because it only answers to the divine.
