Sects and factions amongst Muslims started to arise when they tried to define and defend the truth through the intellect by focusing on what is perceived as wrong, instead of reaffirming what is right.

What we focus on grows, and the more we’re embroiled in the intellectual battlefields of how the truth looks like, we lose sense of how the truth feels like…

{So perchance you (Muhammad sallAllaahu calayhi wasallam ) may give up a part of what is revealed unto you, and that your breast feels straitened for it because they say, “Why has not a treasure been sent down unto him, or an angel has come with him?” But you are only a warner. And Allaah is a Wakiil over all things.}

{Or they say, “He (Prophet Muhammad sallAllaahu calayhi wasallam ) forged it (the Qur’aan).” Say: “Bring you then ten forged Surah (chapters) like unto it, and call whomsoever you can, other than Allaah (to your help), if you

speak the truth!”}

{If then they answer you not, know then that the Revelation (this Qur’aan) is sent down with the Knowledge of Allaah and that Laa ilaaha illa huwa: (none has the right to be worshipped but He)! Will you then be Muslims (those who submit to Islaam)?}

(Hud 11:12-14)

Allaah prevented the prophet from defending the truth when it was rejected . His task was only to convey the truth and not respond to how the truth was perceived because it was never about fighting the dark, but to spread the light. The shaytaan uses errors and misconceptions as red herrings to lead focus away from spreading light to wrestling darkness.
The only response to someone who rejects a truth is, bring the truth with which you rejected what was presented to you. But the ego only rejects out of feeling its autonomy threatened.

The truth is universal and isn’t confined to verses of the Qur’aan or ahadeeth. It can’t be defined because everything in existence IS the truth, Allaah IS the truth, al-Haqq, and falsehood is the only thing quarantined because it has no substance. It leeches off shadows and disconnection between heart and mind. It is the blocks in us that prevent us from seeing reality.

{And say: “Truth has come and falsehood has vanished. Surely! Falsehood is ever bound to

(Al-Isra 17:81)

Understanding the truth is not a straightforward process. It’s something gifted by Allaah, so if someone denies or defies your truth, don’t fight, feel. Feel the full extent of the situation so as to ascertain that you’re not putting up barriers to protect what you identify with, and move on when you feel that you have understood all you could. Don’t focus on bringing the other person to heel because in doing so you are laying claim to something that was given to you by Allaah’s tawfeeq, and that puts you at risk of feeling self-righteous. No one really knows the truth because our perception and our limitations of understanding always fall short of the reality. So there’s always something we learn, something we uncover in ourselves. We aren’t in a position to feel safe by virtue of someone’s error. We only feel safe by knowing that if the truth comes, in whatever form it comes, we’ll comply. Even if that makes us struggle with doubt or insecurity. That’s good, because that’s our ego weakening.

Our steadfastness is never in holding on to what we know, but to hold on to what we feel the truth is in our hearts. To simply let go of what doesn’t feel right anymore, and accept what does. To let the truth cycle freely in the heart like the seasons of the year. To trust that only Allaah brings the truth and clarity, and only our egos block it. To trust that Allaah only strips us of what we identify with so as to bring us to full bloom again.
