When people focus on ostracizing offensive elements from the public realm – be it online or media- or when they police what children should or shouldn’t be exposed to – there’s a subtext that threatens the freedom of being. It’s the exercise to lump everyone into one monolithic group where thoughts and opinions and feelings are uniform. To put it another way, the ultimate goal is to ferret out the dissidents who think differently and make examples out of them by saying ‘ see these hostile folks who hold weird and different opinions? We’ll hunt them down and we shall not rest until we find them and their threatening voices, and they’ll die a slow death of exclusion. And anyone who steps out of the boundaries we set down will meet the same fate.’
By using emotions as the deciding factor in what’s acceptable, critical thinking is being eradicated and with it our proactiveness as individuals. This is the epitome of mind control.
So when you see stories like that of Kaitlyn Jenner on all major news outlets where the central message is ‘accept this! If you don’t, you’re a hateful savage. ‘ what is really being communicated is
‘we tell you what to think, how to think, so follow our lead.’
“The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum – even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there’s free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate.”
― Noam Chomsky
Want to know if you’ve been affected?
– do you feel helpless when faced with the state of the world today and find it easier to tune out?
– when a tragedy happens somewhere in the world, is your first reaction to see if it’s on the news? And if it’s not, you make yourself forget about it, thinking you got it wrong, otherwise it’d be picked up by the media outlets.
– when you notice a growing problem in society, or in some parts of the world, is your first question; ‘why isn’t anyone doing anything about this?’
If you recognize any of the above, then your independent thinking faculties have been stripped from you, and you’ve been rendered passive. What this entails is that your mind is hibernating, but you still have the power to become conscious and proactive, if you so choose. It’s just going to be very uncomfortable at first. Actually, it’s going to be excruciating. Any real thinking is painful af.
“There’s no coming to consciousness without pain.”
— C.G. Jung
As a rule of thumb; anything that’s reported by the news has an agenda. If it really matters, it will be banned from the airwaves.
“The reason why the world lacks unity, and lies broken and in heaps, is, because man is disunited with himself.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
